Wolfgang Tillmans is a German photographer and artist who has been at the forefront of contemporary photography since the early 1990s. Born in 1968 in Remscheid, Germany, Tillmans studied at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design in England before moving to Hamburg in 1989.
Tillmans' work is characterized by its diversity, ranging from intimate portraits to abstract landscapes. He often uses unconventional materials such as magazine cutouts, photocopies, and Polaroid prints to create his art. His photographs have been featured in numerous solo exhibitions around the world, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Tate Modern in London.
In 2000, Tillmans was awarded the Turner Prize for his contributions to contemporary art. He has also received numerous awards from institutions such as the Hasselblad Foundation and Deutsche Börse Photography Prize. In addition to his photographic work, Tillmans has also released several albums of electronic music under various aliases.
