Wang Liang is a Chinese photographer and visual artist based in Beijing. He is best known for his work in documentary photography, which often focuses on the lives of ordinary people in China.
Born in Beijing in 1982, Wang Liang grew up surrounded by the city’s vibrant culture and art scene. He developed an early interest in photography, and began taking pictures of his friends and family at a young age. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the Central Academy of Fine Arts to study photography.
During his time at the academy, Wang Liang developed a passion for documentary photography. He was particularly interested in capturing the everyday lives of ordinary people living in China’s cities and rural areas. After graduating from the academy, he began traveling around China to document its people and places. His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions around the world, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
In addition to his documentary work, Wang Liang has also created several series of fine art photographs that explore themes such as identity, memory, and nostalgia. His work has been praised for its ability to capture both beauty and sadness within a single image.
Wang Liang continues to live and work in Beijing today, where he is an active member of China’s photographic community. He is currently working on a new project that will explore how technology is changing our relationship with nature.
