Wai Lin Tse is a Hong Kong-born photographer and visual artist based in New York City. She is best known for her vibrant, colorful images that capture the beauty of everyday life.
Tse was born in Hong Kong and moved to the United States at the age of 18 to pursue her passion for photography. She studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where she earned her BFA in Photography and Video. After graduating, she began working as a freelance photographer, shooting for various publications and brands.
Tse’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions around the world, including shows at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. Her photographs have also been published in magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle.
In addition to her photography work, Tse is also an active member of several organizations that promote diversity and inclusion within the art world. She is a founding member of The Brown Bookshelf Project, which works to increase visibility for authors of color; a board member of The Bronx Documentary Center; and an advisory board member for The International Center for Photography’s Diversity & Inclusion Initiative.
Tse’s work has been recognized with numerous awards over the years, including a Lucie Award for Fine Art Photographer of the Year (2018) and a PDN 30 Award (2019). Her photographs have also been featured on CNN International’s “The Art Of” series.
Through her work, Tse hopes to inspire others to see beauty in everyday moments and to appreciate diversity within our communities.
