Valerio Spada is an Italian photographer and filmmaker based in Rome. He is best known for his work in fashion, portraiture, and documentary photography.
Spada was born in Rome in 1975 and grew up surrounded by art and culture. His father was a painter and his mother a sculptor, so it was only natural that he would develop an interest in the visual arts. He began taking photographs at the age of 15, using a Pentax K1000 camera given to him by his father.
In 1997, Spada graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome with a degree in photography. After graduation, he began working as a freelance photographer for various magazines and newspapers. His work soon caught the attention of fashion designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, and Armani, who hired him to shoot their campaigns.
In addition to fashion photography, Spada has also worked on several documentary projects over the years. In 2008 he released his first feature-length documentary film titled "The Last Days of Shishmaref," which focused on the effects of global warming on an Alaskan village. The film won numerous awards at international film festivals and was praised for its powerful message about climate change.
Spada's work has been featured in numerous publications including Vogue Italia, Vanity Fair Italy, GQ Italy, Marie Claire Italy, L'Uomo Vogue Italy, The New York Times Magazine, The Guardian Magazine UK, Stern Germany and many more. He has also exhibited his work at galleries around the world including the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Today Valerio Spada continues to create stunning images that capture both beauty and truth with his unique vision and style.
