Taras Taraporvala is an Indian photographer and filmmaker based in Mumbai. He is best known for his documentary photography, which has been featured in numerous publications and exhibitions around the world.
Taras was born in Mumbai, India in 1975. He studied photography at the Sir J.J. School of Art, where he graduated with a degree in Applied Arts in 1998. After graduating, he worked as a freelance photographer for various publications and advertising agencies before launching his own studio in 2001.
Since then, Taras has become one of India's most renowned photographers, with his work being featured in publications such as National Geographic, Time Magazine, The New York Times Magazine and many more. His photographs have also been exhibited at galleries and museums around the world including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City and the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) in London.
In addition to his photography work, Taras has also directed several short films which have been screened at film festivals around the world including Cannes Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival. He has also written several books on photography including ‘The Art of Seeing’ (2005) and ‘The Language of Light’ (2008).
Taras continues to live and work in Mumbai where he is currently working on a new series of photographs exploring the city's changing landscape.
