Su Mustecaplioglu is a Turkish photographer and visual artist based in Istanbul. She has been taking photographs since she was a child, and her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions around the world.
Mustecaplioglu's work focuses on the human condition, exploring themes of identity, memory, and belonging. Her photographs often feature people from her native Turkey, as well as other countries she has visited. She is particularly interested in capturing the beauty of everyday life and the unique stories that can be found within it.
Mustecaplioglu's work has been exhibited at galleries and museums across Europe, including the Istanbul Modern Art Museum, the Tate Modern in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. She has also had solo exhibitions at galleries such as Galeri Nev in Istanbul and Galerie Lelong & Co. in Paris. In addition to her photography, Mustecaplioglu also works with video art and installations.
Mustecaplioglu's work has been widely praised for its ability to capture both the beauty of everyday life and its darker aspects. Her photographs have been featured in publications such as The New York Times Magazine, The Guardian, Vogue Italia, and National Geographic Traveler. In 2018 she was awarded the Prix Pictet for her series “The Unseen” which explored themes of displacement and migration through portraits of refugees living in Turkey.
Mustecaplioglu is an active member of several international photography organizations including Magnum Photos and World Press Photo. She is also a founding member of Fotoistanbul – an organization dedicated to promoting photography from Turkey around the world.
