Stefanie Moshammer: A Boundary-Defying Visual Artist
Born in 1988, Stefanie Moshammer is a visual artist whose work transcends traditional artistic boundaries. Her diverse practice includes photography, moving images, text, installations, textile-sculptural elements, and book publishing. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences and social phenomena, Moshammer masterfully blends fictional narratives with research-driven approaches, often creating pieces that connect deeply with the private sphere.
Moshammer's educational background is equally eclectic. She initially graduated in Textile Design from the Fashion School Vienna. She then pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design & Photography at the University of Art and Design in Linz, followed by a BA in Advanced Visual Storytelling at the Danish School of Media and Journalism. Additionally, she completed a one-year study in Social and Cultural Anthropology.
An accomplished author, Moshammer has published several books, including “Vegas and She” (Fotohof edition, 2014), “Land of Black Milk” (Skinnerboox, 2017), “Not just your face honey” (Spector Books & C/O Berlin, 2018), "Each Poison, A Pillow" (Éditions Images Vevey, 2023), and "Vienna. A Fountain playing in the Sun." (Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye, 2023). Her work has earned her numerous awards and has been featured in various international publications.
Moshammer's art has been exhibited widely across Europe, the US, and Asia, including prestigious venues like Fotografiska New York, Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art in South Korea, Foam Photography Museum in Amsterdam, Kunst Haus Vienna, Belvedere21 Vienna, C/O Berlin, Webber Gallery London, and the MAK - Museum of Applied Arts Vienna.
Awards and Recognitions
Stefanie Moshammer's work has garnered numerous awards and recognitions, such as being longlisted for the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize in 2023 and receiving the On the Road Again Grant from the Austrian Cultural Forums in cooperation with Künstlerhaus Vienna in 2022. She also won the Wallpaper* New Generation Prize at the 35th Hyères International Festival of Fashion & Photography in 2020, the C/O Berlin Talent Award in 2018, and the Outstanding Artist Award from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts & Culture.
