Sophie Elgort is an American photographer and director based in New York City. She is best known for her fashion and portrait photography, which has been featured in publications such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and W Magazine.
Elgort was born in New York City in 1987 to parents Arthur Elgort and Grethe Barrett Holby. Her father is a renowned fashion photographer who has worked with many of the world's top models, including Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. Her mother is a former dancer and choreographer who has worked with the likes of Mikhail Baryshnikov and Twyla Tharp.
Elgort began her career as an assistant to her father at the age of 15. She quickly developed a passion for photography, and soon began shooting her own projects. In 2008, she graduated from Bard College with a degree in photography.
In 2010, Elgort had her first solo exhibition at the Steven Kasher Gallery in New York City. Since then, she has had numerous exhibitions around the world, including shows at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Her work has also been featured in several books, including "Sophie Elgort: Photographs" (2012) and "The Big Picture: A Decade of Photography" (2015).
In addition to her photography career, Elgort has also directed several short films for brands such as Nike and Gap. She also directed a feature-length documentary about her father's life titled "Arthur Elgort: The Camera Does Not Lie" (2017).
Elgort currently lives in Brooklyn with her husband, actor Ansel Elgort (of "The Fault In Our Stars" fame), whom she married in 2017.
