Sophie Cecile Xu is a Chinese-American photographer based in New York City. She is best known for her vibrant and colorful images that capture the beauty of everyday life.

Born in Beijing, China, Sophie moved to the United States at the age of seven. She grew up in a small town in Massachusetts and developed an early interest in photography. After graduating from high school, she attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City where she earned her BFA in Photography.

Since then, Sophie has become a sought-after photographer whose work has been featured in numerous publications including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and The New York Times Magazine. Her work has also been exhibited at galleries around the world including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the International Center of Photography (ICP).

In addition to her commercial work, Sophie is passionate about creating personal projects that explore themes such as identity, culture, and family. Her most recent project “The Colorful Life” focuses on capturing moments of joy and beauty within everyday life. Through this project she hopes to inspire others to find joy and beauty within their own lives.

Sophie’s work has been recognized with numerous awards including the PDN 30 Emerging Photographers Award and the Magenta Foundation Flash Forward Award for Emerging Photographers.

When she’s not behind the camera, Sophie enjoys traveling around the world with her camera in hand to capture new stories and experiences.
