Shaniqwa Jarvis is an American photographer and visual artist based in Brooklyn, New York. She is best known for her vibrant and intimate portraits of people of color, often featuring her friends and family.
Jarvis was born in Los Angeles, California in 1988. She grew up surrounded by art and creativity, as her mother was a painter and her father was a musician. From an early age, she was exposed to the world of art and photography through her parents’ work.
At the age of 18, Jarvis moved to New York City to pursue a career in photography. She studied at the School of Visual Arts before launching her own freelance photography business. Her work has been featured in publications such as Vogue, The New York Times Magazine, GQ, Complex Magazine, and more.
Jarvis’s work focuses on capturing the beauty of everyday life through intimate portraits of people of color. Her photographs often feature close-up shots that capture the unique personalities of her subjects. She has also collaborated with brands such as Nike, Adidas, Converse, and Reebok on campaigns that celebrate diversity and inclusion.
In addition to photography, Jarvis is also an accomplished visual artist who works with mixed media collage techniques to create vibrant works that explore themes such as identity and belonging.
