Osamu Yokonami is a Japanese photographer known for his surreal and dreamlike images. Born in Tokyo in 1972, he studied photography at the Tokyo College of Photography and graduated in 1995. After graduation, he began working as a freelance photographer, shooting for magazines such as Vogue Japan and GQ Japan.
In 2000, Yokonami had his first solo exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. His work has since been featured in numerous exhibitions around the world, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. He has also published several books of his photographs, including “The Dreamlike World” (2003) and “The Unseen” (2008).
Yokonami’s photographs often feature dreamlike landscapes or abstract compositions that explore themes of memory and identity. He often uses long exposures to create a sense of stillness and timelessness in his images. His work has been described as “hauntingly beautiful” and “surreal yet strangely familiar”.
Yokonami continues to live and work in Tokyo, where he is currently working on a new series of photographs exploring the relationship between nature and technology.
