Olivia Lifungula is a Congolese photographer and visual artist based in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. She is best known for her vibrant and powerful images that capture the beauty of everyday life in her home country.
Lifungula was born in Kinshasa in 1988 and grew up surrounded by art and culture. She was inspired by the work of her father, a renowned Congolese painter, and began taking photographs at an early age. After completing her studies at the University of Kinshasa, she decided to pursue photography professionally.
Lifungula’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions around the world, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Her photographs have also been published in magazines such as National Geographic and Vogue Italia.
In addition to her photography, Lifungula is also an active advocate for women’s rights and gender equality in Congo. She has worked with various organizations to promote education for girls and raise awareness about violence against women. In 2017, she was awarded the prestigious Prix Pictet for her work on gender equality.
