Matilde Travassos is a Portuguese photographer and visual artist based in Lisbon. She has been working in the field of photography since the early 2000s, and her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and publications around the world.
Travassos’s work is characterized by its focus on the human figure, often exploring themes of identity, gender, and sexuality. Her photographs are often intimate and personal, capturing moments of vulnerability and emotion. She has also explored themes of nature and landscape, creating images that evoke a sense of stillness and contemplation.
Travassos’s work has been exhibited at galleries in Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Japan. Her photographs have also been featured in publications such as The New York Times Magazine, Vogue Italia and The Guardian. In addition to her photographic practice she also works as a curator for various exhibitions around Europe.
Travassos’s work has earned her numerous awards including the International Photography Award (IPA) for Best Fine Art Series (2015), the Prix de la Photographie Paris (PX3) for Fine Art Nude (2016), and the International Photography Awards (IPA) for Best Fine Art Series (2017). She was also awarded an Honorary Mention at the Sony World Photography Awards (2018).
