Makiyo Lio is a Taiwanese photographer and visual artist based in Taipei. She is known for her unique and creative approach to photography, which often combines elements of traditional Chinese culture with modern aesthetics.
Born in Taipei in 1988, Makiyo Lio developed an interest in photography at an early age. She began taking pictures of her family and friends, and soon realized that she had a talent for capturing the beauty of everyday life. After graduating from high school, she enrolled in the National Taiwan University of Arts to study photography and visual arts.
During her studies, Makiyo Lio developed a passion for exploring the relationship between traditional Chinese culture and modern aesthetics. She often uses traditional Chinese elements such as calligraphy, paper-cutting, and ink painting to create unique compositions that are both visually striking and emotionally evocative. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions around the world, including the Taipei Biennial (2015) and the International Center of Photography (2017).
In addition to her photographic work, Makiyo Lio also works as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. Her clients include major international brands such as Nike, Adidas, Uniqlo, and Apple Music. She has also collaborated with several renowned photographers on projects for magazines such as Vogue Taiwan and Harper’s Bazaar China.
