Maggie West is an American photographer and visual artist based in Los Angeles, California. She is best known for her vibrant and dreamy photographs of youth culture, often featuring young people in surreal settings.
West was born in San Francisco, California in 1988. She grew up surrounded by art and creativity, as her mother was a painter and her father a sculptor. From an early age, West was drawn to photography as a way to express herself creatively. She began taking pictures of her friends and family at the age of 12, and soon developed a passion for capturing the beauty of everyday life.
In 2006, West moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in photography. She quickly gained recognition for her unique style of portraiture, which often featured young people in dream-like settings. Her work has been featured in numerous publications including Vogue Italia, The New York Times Magazine, and The Guardian. In addition to editorial work, West has also created campaigns for brands such as Nike and Adidas.
In recent years, West has expanded her practice to include video art and installation pieces. Her work has been exhibited at galleries around the world including the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles (MOCA) and the Tate Modern in London. In 2020 she released her first book “Dreamers” which features a collection of her photographs from over the past decade.
West continues to push boundaries with her work by exploring themes such as identity, youth culture, and femininity through photography and other mediums. Her vibrant images capture moments that are both intimate and surreal – creating an alternate reality that viewers can escape into.
