About

Lucien Bor (1902-1985) was a French photographer and photojournalist who is best known for his work documenting the Spanish Civil War. Born in Paris, Bor studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and began his career as a painter. He soon became interested in photography, however, and began to document the social and political events of his time.

In 1936, Bor traveled to Spain to document the Spanish Civil War. His photographs captured the brutality of war and its effects on civilians, as well as the courage of those fighting for their beliefs. His work was published in newspapers around the world, bringing attention to the conflict and helping to shape public opinion.

After returning from Spain, Bor continued to photograph social issues in France and abroad. He documented World War II, as well as post-war reconstruction efforts in Europe. He also photographed celebrities such as Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau. In addition to his photography work, he wrote several books about photography technique and aesthetics.

Bor's photographs have been exhibited around the world, including at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City and The National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., among others. His work has been praised for its ability to capture both beauty and tragedy with equal skill. Lucien Bor's legacy continues to inspire photographers today with its timelessness and power.
