Kourtney Roy is a Canadian photographer and visual artist based in Montreal, Quebec. She is best known for her dreamy, surrealist images that explore themes of identity, femininity, and the human condition.
Roy was born in Montreal in 1988 and grew up in a small town outside the city. She developed an interest in photography at an early age, taking pictures of her family and friends with her father's old camera. After graduating from high school, she attended Concordia University where she studied photography and visual arts.
In 2010, Roy began to gain recognition for her work when she was featured in the prestigious Magenta Foundation's Flash Forward competition. Since then, she has exhibited her work around the world including at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (MACM), The Photographers' Gallery (London), The Museum of Fine Arts (Houston), and The Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago). Her work has also been featured in publications such as Vogue Italia, Harper's Bazaar UK, and The New York Times Magazine.
Roy's photographs often feature dream-like scenes that explore themes of identity and femininity. Her work is characterized by its use of vibrant colors and surrealist elements that create a sense of mystery and intrigue. In addition to photography, Roy also works with video art and installation pieces to further explore these themes.
In 2020, Roy released her first book titled "Dreams & Other Realities" which features a collection of her photographs from the past decade. The book was met with critical acclaim from both critics and fans alike who praised its unique vision and captivating imagery.
