Karl Lagerfeld (1933-2019) was a German fashion designer, artist, and photographer. He was born in Hamburg, Germany on September 10th, 1933. He began his career as an apprentice to Pierre Balmain in 1955 and later worked for Jean Patou and ChloƩ.
In the 1960s, Lagerfeld began to make a name for himself as a fashion designer. He designed for Fendi, Chloe, and his own label. His designs were known for their modernity and elegance. He also became known for his signature look of white hair, sunglasses, and black suits.
In addition to his work as a fashion designer, Lagerfeld was also an accomplished photographer. He photographed many of the world's most famous models including Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell. His photographs were featured in magazines such as Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.
Lagerfeld was also an avid art collector with works by Picasso, Matisse, and Warhol among others in his collection. In addition to art collecting he was also an avid reader with over 300 books in his library at the time of his death in 2019.
Throughout his career Karl Lagerfeld achieved great success as a fashion designer and photographer. His work has been celebrated around the world and will continue to be remembered long after his death.
