Julia Galdo is an award-winning photographer and visual artist based in Los Angeles. She is best known for her vibrant, surrealistic images that explore the relationship between the human body and its environment.
Galdo was born in Mexico City and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 12. She began her career as a photographer in high school, shooting for local publications and fashion brands. After graduating from college with a degree in photography, she worked as a freelance photographer for several years before launching her own studio in 2014.
Galdo’s work has been featured in numerous publications including Vogue, The New York Times Magazine, and The Guardian. She has also exhibited her work at galleries around the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
In addition to her photography, Galdo is also an accomplished filmmaker. Her short films have been screened at film festivals around the world, including Cannes Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival. In 2020 she released her first feature-length documentary “The Dreamers” which explores the lives of undocumented immigrants living in Los Angeles.
Galdo’s work has earned her numerous awards including a Lucie Award for Fine Art Photography (2018) and a Hasselblad Masters Award (2020). She is currently working on several new projects that explore themes of identity, immigration, and belonging.
