Ieva Ukanyte is a Lithuanian photographer and visual artist based in Vilnius. She has been taking photographs since she was a child, and her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and publications around the world.

Ukanyte’s work focuses on the human condition, exploring themes of identity, memory, and belonging. Her photographs often feature people in their everyday lives, capturing moments of intimacy and vulnerability. She also works with abstract images to explore the relationship between nature and humanity.

Ukanyte’s work has been exhibited at galleries in Lithuania, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United States, and Canada. She has also been featured in publications such as Vogue Italia, The Guardian, The New York Times Magazine, and National Geographic. In 2020 she was awarded the Lithuanian National Photography Prize for her series “The Unseen” which explored the effects of climate change on rural communities in Lithuania.

In addition to her photography practice Ukanyte is also an educator and mentor for young photographers. She regularly gives lectures at universities around Europe on topics such as photography theory and practice.

Ukanyte’s work is held in private collections around the world as well as public institutions such as the Lithuanian National Museum of Art.
