Hsu Hsiao Wei is a Taiwanese photographer and visual artist. Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1975, Hsu has been creating art since childhood. She studied photography at the National Taiwan University of Arts and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1998.
Hsu's work is characterized by its use of vibrant colors and bold compositions. Her photographs often explore themes of identity, memory, and the human condition. She has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Taipei, the International Center for Photography in New York City, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography.
In addition to her photographic work, Hsu is also an accomplished filmmaker. Her films have been screened at festivals such as Cannes Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival. She has also directed several music videos for Taiwanese pop stars such as Jay Chou and Jolin Tsai.
Hsu's work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times Magazine, Vogue Taiwan, Harper's Bazaar China, and Elle Taiwan. In 2017 she was awarded the prestigious Golden Horse Award for Best Cinematography for her film "The Road Not Taken".
Hsu currently lives and works in Taipei where she continues to create art that speaks to her unique vision of life through photography and film.
