Hilde Van Mas is a Dutch photographer and visual artist based in Amsterdam. She is known for her unique and captivating images that explore the relationship between people and their environment.
Van Mas was born in the Netherlands in 1975, and grew up in a small village near Amsterdam. She studied photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, where she graduated with honors in 2000. After graduating, she moved to Amsterdam to pursue her career as a professional photographer.
Van Mas has exhibited her work internationally, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Her work has also been featured in numerous publications such as Vogue, The New York Times Magazine, and Harper’s Bazaar.
Van Mas’s photography often focuses on themes of identity and belonging. She often uses natural elements such as light and shadow to create powerful images that evoke emotion and tell stories about her subjects. Her work has been described as “hauntingly beautiful” by critics.
In addition to her photography career, Van Mas is also an active member of the Dutch art community. She regularly participates in lectures and workshops on photography and visual arts, and serves on the board of several art organizations. In 2020 she was awarded the prestigious Dutch Culture Prize for her contributions to Dutch culture through her artistry.
