Hana Knizova is a Czech-born photographer and visual artist based in Prague. She is known for her unique and captivating images that explore the relationship between people and their environment.
Knizova was born in Prague in 1988, and began her career as a photographer at the age of 18. She studied photography at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, where she graduated with honors in 2011. After graduating, she worked as a freelance photographer for various magazines and newspapers, including Elle Czech Republic, Marie Claire Czech Republic, and The New York Times.
Knizova’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. Her photographs have also been published in several books including “Hana Knizova: Photographs” (2014) and “The World Through Hana Knizova’s Eyes” (2016).
Knizova’s work focuses on capturing moments that are often overlooked or forgotten. She uses her camera to explore themes such as identity, memory, nostalgia, and belonging. Her photographs often feature people from different backgrounds interacting with their environment or each other. Through her work she hopes to create an emotional connection between viewers and her subjects.
Knizova has received numerous awards for her work including the International Photography Award (IPA) for Best Fine Art Series (2015), the Grand Prix de la Découverte at Les Rencontres d'Arles (2016), and the Prix Pictet Commission Award (2017).
In addition to photography, Knizova also works as a curator for various galleries around Europe. She is currently working on a new project exploring how technology affects our lives today.
