Gregory Derkenne is a French photographer and visual artist based in Paris. He has been working in the field of photography for over 20 years, and his work has been featured in numerous publications, exhibitions, and galleries around the world.
Gregory was born in Paris in 1975 and grew up surrounded by art and culture. His father was a painter, and his mother was a sculptor, so it's no surprise that he developed an interest in the visual arts at an early age. He began taking photographs as a teenager, and soon realized that this was his true passion.
In 1998, Gregory graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris with a degree in photography. After graduation, he began working as a freelance photographer for various magazines and newspapers. His work quickly gained recognition for its unique style and composition.
In 2003, Gregory had his first solo exhibition at the Galerie du Jour Agnès B., which showcased his black-and-white photographs of everyday life in Paris. Since then, he has had numerous solo exhibitions around the world, including shows at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris (2005), The Photographers' Gallery in London (2007), and The Museum of Modern Art in New York (2009).
Gregory's work is characterized by its strong sense of composition and light. He often uses long exposures to capture subtle details that are often overlooked by other photographers. His photographs have been described as "poetic" and "hauntingly beautiful".
Today, Gregory continues to work as a freelance photographer while also teaching workshops on photography at various institutions around Europe. He is also an active member of several photography organizations such as Magnum Photos and World Press Photo.
