Frederike Helwig is a German photographer and visual artist based in Berlin. She is best known for her work in the fields of documentary photography, portraiture, and landscape photography.

Helwig was born in Berlin in 1983. She studied photography at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Dortmund, Germany, where she graduated with a degree in photography and media art. After graduating, she worked as a freelance photographer for various magazines and newspapers.

In 2010, Helwig began to focus on her own projects, which often explore themes of identity and belonging. Her work has been exhibited internationally at galleries such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Her photographs have also been featured in publications such as The New York Times Magazine, The Guardian, and TIME Magazine.

Helwig's work has been recognized with numerous awards including the Leica Oskar Barnack Award (2015), the Prix Pictet (2016), and the World Press Photo Award (2017). In 2018 she was named one of Forbes Magazine's 30 Under 30 Europe: Art & Culture list.

Helwig continues to live and work in Berlin where she is currently working on her first book project about migration and identity.
