Francesco Scavullo (1921-2004) was an Italian-American photographer who was renowned for his iconic images of celebrities, fashion models, and magazine covers. He was born in Staten Island, New York to Italian immigrants and began his career as a photographer at the age of 15.
Scavullo's career spanned over five decades and he became one of the most sought-after photographers in the world. He photographed some of the most famous faces in the world including Elizabeth Taylor, John Lennon, Mick Jagger, and Madonna. His work appeared on the covers of magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Glamour, and Cosmopolitan.
Scavullo was known for his ability to capture beauty in his photographs. He often used natural light to create a soft and romantic atmosphere in his images. His work was praised for its elegance and sophistication.
In addition to his photography career, Scavullo also wrote several books about photography including "The Art of Francesco Scavullo" (1980) and "The Best of Francesco Scavullo" (1985). He also directed several films including "The Eyes Have It" (1984) and "The Look" (1987).
Throughout his career, Scavullo received numerous awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Magazine Photographers in 1998. In 2004 he passed away at the age of 83 due to complications from pneumonia.
