Enrique Covarrubias is a Mexican photographer and visual artist based in Mexico City. He is best known for his work in documentary photography, which often focuses on social issues and the lives of marginalized communities.

Covarrubias was born in Mexico City in 1975. He studied photography at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he graduated with a degree in Visual Arts. After graduating, he began working as a freelance photographer, focusing on documentary projects that explored the lives of people living in poverty and other marginalized communities.

In 2006, Covarrubias was awarded the prestigious FONCA grant for his project “The Other Side of Mexico”, which documented the lives of people living in rural areas of Mexico. This project was later published as a book and exhibited at various galleries around the world.

In addition to his documentary work, Covarrubias has also worked on commercial projects for clients such as Coca-Cola and Volkswagen. He has also collaborated with several magazines including National Geographic and GQ Mexico. His work has been featured in numerous publications including The New York Times Magazine, The Guardian, and TIME Magazine.

Covarrubias’s work has been exhibited at galleries around the world including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). He has also received numerous awards for his work including the World Press Photo Award (2009) and the Hasselblad Masters Award (2011).
