Born in the Netherlands in 1975, David Vandewal developed an early interest in photography and art. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, where he graduated with a degree in photography. After graduating, he began working as a freelance photographer for various magazines and newspapers.

In 2003, David Vandewal had his first solo exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, which showcased his work from around the world. Since then, he has exhibited his work at numerous galleries and museums around the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. His work has also been featured in publications such as The New York Times Magazine, Vogue Italia, and National Geographic.

In addition to his photographic work, David Vandewal is also an accomplished filmmaker.
