Dainius Ščiuka is a Lithuanian photographer and visual artist. He was born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1975 and has been taking photographs since he was a child. He studied photography at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and graduated in 2000.
Since then, Dainius has become one of the most renowned photographers in Lithuania. His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions around the world, including the Lithuanian National Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki, and the International Center for Photography in New York City.
Dainius’s work focuses on capturing everyday life and exploring themes such as identity, memory, and nostalgia. He often uses black-and-white photography to create a sense of timelessness and to emphasize his subjects’ emotions. His photographs have been published in several books, including “Lithuania: A Photographic Journey” (2005) and “The Baltic States: A Photographic Journey” (2008).
In addition to his photographic work, Dainius is also an accomplished filmmaker. He has directed several short films that have been screened at international film festivals such as Cannes Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival. His films explore similar themes as his photography—identity, memory, nostalgia—but with a cinematic approach.
Dainius continues to live and work in Vilnius where he is currently working on his next project—a feature-length documentary about Lithuanian culture and identity.
