Chiun-Kai Shih is a renowned Taiwanese photographer and visual artist. He was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1965 and has been living and working in the United States since 1989.
Shih's work is characterized by its unique blend of traditional Chinese aesthetics with modern photographic techniques. His photographs often feature landscapes, cityscapes, and portraits of people from all walks of life. He has traveled extensively throughout Asia, Europe, and the United States to capture his images.
Shih's work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums around the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. His photographs have also been featured in publications such as The New York Times Magazine, Time Magazine, National Geographic Magazine, and The Guardian.
In addition to his photography career, Shih is also an accomplished painter and sculptor. His paintings have been exhibited at galleries throughout Taiwan and the United States. He has also created several public sculptures which can be found throughout Taiwan.
Shih's work has earned him numerous awards including a Golden Apple Award from the Taipei International Photo Festival (2005), a Gold Medal from the International Photography Awards (2006), and a Lucie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Fine Art Photography (2007). In 2008 he was named one of PDN's 30 Emerging Photographers to Watch by Photo District News magazine.
Shih currently lives and works in Los Angeles where he continues to create stunning photographs that capture both beauty and emotion.
