Charlie Engman is an American photographer and artist based in Los Angeles, California. He is best known for his surreal and often humorous images that explore the boundaries between art and photography.
Engman was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1984. He studied photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating with a BFA in 2006. After graduation, he moved to New York City where he worked as a freelance photographer for several years before relocating to Los Angeles in 2011.
Engman's work has been featured in numerous publications including The New York Times Magazine, Vogue, W Magazine, Dazed & Confused, and i-D Magazine. His photographs have also been exhibited at galleries around the world including the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
In addition to his photographic work, Engman has also collaborated with fashion designers such as Prada and Marc Jacobs on campaigns and lookbooks. He has also directed music videos for artists such as The xx and Lykke Li.
