Cha Hye Gyeong is a South Korean photographer and visual artist. She was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1985 and has been living and working in the city ever since.
Cha Hye Gyeong studied photography at the Seoul Institute of the Arts, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2009. After graduation, she began to explore her own creative practice, focusing on documentary photography and portraiture. Her work often explores themes of identity, memory, and nostalgia.
In 2011, Cha Hye Gyeong had her first solo exhibition at the Seoul Museum of Art. Since then she has exhibited her work widely both in South Korea and internationally. Her work has been featured in numerous publications including The New York Times Magazine, The Guardian, Vogue Italia, and TIME Magazine.
Cha Hye Gyeong's work has been recognized with several awards including the Grand Prize at the International Photography Awards (IPA) in 2014 and the Grand Prize at the Sony World Photography Awards in 2015. In 2016 she was named one of PDN's 30 Emerging Photographers to Watch.
Cha Hye Gyeong continues to live and work in Seoul where she is currently exploring new ways to express her vision through photography and other mediums such as video art and installation art.
