Astrid Muñoz is a Cuban-American photographer and visual artist based in Miami, Florida. She is best known for her vibrant and colorful images that capture the beauty of everyday life.
Muñoz was born in Havana, Cuba in 1975. She moved to Miami with her family at the age of seven and has been living there ever since. She studied photography at the New World School of the Arts in Miami, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1997.
Muñoz’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions around the world, including shows at the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, The Frost Art Museum, and The Bass Museum of Art. Her photographs have also been published in magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vanity Fair.
In addition to her photography career, Muñoz is also an active member of the Cuban-American community in Miami. She has served on the board of directors for several organizations dedicated to preserving Cuban culture and heritage. In 2017 she was awarded a Knight Foundation grant to create a series of photographs that document Cuban-American life in South Florida.
Muñoz’s work is characterized by its vibrant colors and its ability to capture moments that are often overlooked or forgotten. Her photographs are a celebration of life and culture that speaks to both Cubans and non-Cubans alike.
