Apichart Chaichulla is a Thai photographer and visual artist based in Bangkok. He is best known for his documentary-style photography, which often focuses on the lives of people living in rural Thailand.
Born in Bangkok in 1975, Apichart began his career as a photographer at the age of 18. After studying photography at the University of Technology Thonburi, he went on to work as a freelance photographer for various magazines and newspapers. His work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Time Magazine, and National Geographic.
In addition to his editorial work, Apichart has also produced several books of photography that focus on the lives of people living in rural Thailand. His first book, “The People of Thailand” (2005), was an exploration of the country’s diverse cultures and traditions. His second book, “The Landscape of Thailand” (2008), focused on the natural beauty of the country’s landscapes.
Apichart has also exhibited his work internationally, including at the International Center for Photography in New York City and at galleries throughout Europe and Asia. In 2010 he was awarded a fellowship from the Magnum Foundation to pursue a project about Thai migrant workers living abroad.
In addition to his photographic work, Apichart is also an active member of several non-profit organizations that promote social justice and human rights in Thailand. He is currently working on a project about environmental issues facing rural communities in Southeast Asia.
