Anthony Cunanan is a Filipino-American photographer and visual artist based in Los Angeles, California. He is best known for his vibrant and colorful photographs of the urban landscape, often featuring street art and graffiti.
Cunanan was born in Manila, Philippines in 1988. He moved to the United States at the age of 12 with his family, settling in Los Angeles. From an early age, he was drawn to photography as a way to express himself and capture the beauty of his surroundings.
He attended California State University Northridge where he earned a degree in photography and digital media. After graduating, he began working as a freelance photographer for various publications and brands. His work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, The Guardian, Vice Magazine, and National Geographic.
In addition to his commercial work, Cunanan has also developed an impressive portfolio of personal projects that explore themes such as identity, culture, and community. His work has been exhibited at galleries around the world including the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach.
Cunanan’s work has been recognized with numerous awards including the International Photography Awards (IPA) for Best Street Photography Series (2018) and Best Photojournalism Series (2019). He was also named one of PDN’s 30 Emerging Photographers to Watch (2020).
Today Cunanan continues to pursue his passion for photography while inspiring others through workshops and lectures on visual storytelling.
