About

Alexandra Cabral is a Brazilian photographer and visual artist based in São Paulo. She has been working in the field of photography since 2009, when she graduated from the University of São Paulo with a degree in Visual Arts.

Cabral's work focuses on the exploration of identity and memory, often through the use of self-portraiture. Her photographs are characterized by their dreamlike quality, which she achieves through her use of color and light. She has exhibited her work in galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, the Museum of Contemporary Art in São Paulo, and the International Center for Photography in New York City.

In addition to her photography practice, Cabral is also an educator and mentor to aspiring photographers. She has taught workshops at universities across Brazil and abroad, as well as online courses for students around the world. She is also a founding member of Fotoativa, an organization that promotes photography education for young people from underprivileged backgrounds.

Cabral's work has been featured in publications such as Vogue Brasil, The New York Times Magazine, The Guardian, and National Geographic. In 2020 she was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for her ongoing project exploring memory and identity through self-portraiture.
