The haute couture and menswear shows of Paris Fashion Week which were originally slated to take place this summer have been canceled in the wake of the pandemic.
The Federation de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, the governing body for the French fashion industry announced that 'In light of the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic worldwide, strong decisions are required to ensure the safety and health of Houses, their employees and everyone working in our industry,' the federation said in a statement. However, it said that it is 'actively working with its members on possible alternatives.'
The Paris Fashion Week Menswear was scheduled from June 23rd to June 28th, 2020, while the Haute Couture Week scheduled from July 5 to July 9, 2020.
The announcement comes on the heels of the cancellation of prominent events such as the CFDA Awards, Met Gala and the Cannes Film Festival. France is currently on lockdown due to the increasing cases of COVID-19 and French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe recently extended the lockdown which began in mid-March till April 15.
