Palais Galliera honors Azzedine Alaia with Retrospective




The Palais Galliera Paris's most famous fashion museum, is once again honoring Tunisian couturier Azzedine Alaia with an exhibition.

Titled 'Azzedine Alaia, couturier collector' it focuses on his personal collection of 20,000 haute couture garments amassed by the late designer. The prestigious collection includes pieces by Madeleine Vionnet, Chanel, Elsa Schiaparelli and Jean Patou, as well as Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano.

According to Olivier Saillard, director of the Association Azzedine Alaia and curator of the exhibition, Alaia started collecting very early in 1968, when the Balenciaga haute couture atelier closed thus making him one of the most illustrious collector of his generation. The retrospective features a selection of 150 exceptional pieces that have never been unveiled to the public before. It is the second exhibition celebrating the designer and his work ten years after an event to coincide with its reopening after four years of renovations.

The 'Azzedine Alaia, couturier collector' exhibition will run from from September 27, 2023 to January 21, 2024 at the Palais Galliera, 10 avenue Pierre 1er de Serbe, Paris 16th, (Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday night until 9 p.m.).
