Mulberry collaborates with Alexa Chung on 70s-Inspired Capsule Collection

British lifestyle brand Mulberry has teamed up with British model and designer Alexa Chung for limited-edition capsule collection of timeless bags as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

Titled 'Mulberry x Alexa Chung' the collection which marks Chungs' design debut comprises of two styles: a shoulder bag called the Big Guy and a compact clutch called Little Guy. The Big Guy is designed with versatility in mind and can be carried all day to go with everything. The Little Guy is a more elegant, slimline bag for evening.

Both bags are made from glossy crocodile-effect patent leather, sumptuous velvet suede while the colour palette ranges from classic shades such as black, dark chocolate, tan, apple green and denim blue. Drawing on the aesthetic signatures of Chungs' own personal style and the 1970s nostalgia, altogether, the bags are intended to be loved and worn, and one day passed on to the next generation.

According to Chung who inspired Mulberry's iconic original Alexa bag almost a decade ago, when designing the new bags she looked at photos of Lauren Hutton and Charlotte Rampling and films like Working Girl and 9 to 5.

'I thought it was a great, quite rare opportunity. I never expected to be invited to actually design my own Mulberry bag, which is really a dream come true. Mulberry has always been a brand that's very close to my heart. The Alexa represents a moment in my life that I'm extraordinarily proud of and feel really lucky to have experienced. It's nostalgic and sentimental and sweet and joyful. This time, I wanted to create something that straddled what the bag means to me personally, but could become that for someone else's wardrobe. I wanted to make sure that it would endure, to become a future classic. I welcome this extension of a relationship that's been unfolding over decades,' Chung said in a statement.

'Alexa has been an important part of Mulberry's history, and it's an honor to welcome her to the house for this highly personal design collaboration during our 50th anniversary. Since Alexa first caught our eye with her unexpected, confident approach to style, she has also shown herself to be an equally exciting and talented designer who shares our appreciation for bold British design,' added Thierry Andretta, CEO of Mulberry.

The new collaboration is part of Mulberry Editions, a series of partnerships in celebration of its 50th anniversary, which also includes collections with emerging designers such as Priya Ahluwalia, Richard Malone and Nicholas Daley.
