Karl Lagerfeld's beloved Birman feline Choupette will soon be available as a plush toy.
The creative director of Chanel has collaborated with German-based plush toy company Steiff to make 2,000 limited-edition pets. At 40 centimeters (16 inches) long, the iconic companion of Lagerfeld will have the same fluffy white fur and blue eyes, as well as a magnetic black leather mouse companion and Steiff's signature red and gold button label through the ear.
With more than 92,000 followers on Instagram, two dedicated 'assistants' who care for her, several magazine covers and her own capsule collection, Choupette is fashion's most pampered pet.
'Choupette is such a famous and beautiful cat that when this request came to me, I was not even surprised,' said Lagerfeld in a statement. 'Steiff is the perfect choice for this kind of collaboration. It's the only company that has the required expertise to highlight the extreme and absolute refinement of this young princess.'
This is Lagerfeld's second cooperation with the toy manufacturer. On the occasion of the company's 125th anniversary in 2013, the designer had created a limited edition teddy bear.
The Steiff Choupette will be available from May this year for 499 Euro's (about $538) exclusively via Karl.com as well as in selected Karl stores. It will also be available at Steiff stores, Steiff.com and other selected fashion and toy retailers.
