How the Fashion Industry is supporting the fight against Coronavirus




From event cancelations to affected sales, the Coronavirus pandemic has drastically hit the Fashion industry with everyone from small businesses to large luxury retailers. The contagion has not only brought public life to a standstill but its impacts continue to generate economic losses. The fashion industry has decided to get involved in the fight against the pandemic.

 

Below we take a look at all the projects and initiatives announced by the big names in the fashion industry to combat the virus.


 

Versace
Chief creative officer Donatella Versace and her daughter Allegra Versace Beck announced a personal contribution of 200,000 euros to the San Raffaele Anesthesia and Intensive Care Hospital in Milan. 'In times like this, it is important to be united and support however we can to help all those who are in the front lines, fighting every day to save hundreds of lives. Our hearts go out to all those who have been affected by this disease and to all the doctors and medical staff who have been working heroically non-stop in the past weeks in the effort to take care of our loved ones,' the two said in an official statement.

 

Prada
Creative director Miuccia Prada, her husband Patrizio Bertelli the company's co-CEO, and chairman Carlo Mazzi have personally donated six intensive care and resuscitation units to three hospitals in Milan: Vittore Buzzi, Sacco, and San Raffaele.

 

Bulgari
The Italian luxury brand announced that it would manufacture and donate hand sanitizers to medical facilities throughout Italy. This is in addition to a donation the brand made to Rome's Istituto Lazzaro Spallanzani earlier in March.

 

Giorgio Armani
The brand donated 1.25 million euros to several Italian hospitals. This is in addition to its announcement back in March that its factories were launching the production of single-use medical overalls for healthcare workers in Italy.

 

Sergio Rossi
The Italian women's footwear company donated 100,000 euros to the Fatebenefratelli and Luigi Sacco hospitals in Milan which it raised through its 'Shoes Make A Difference' campaign.

 

Gucci
The Italian luxury house announced a donation of 2 million euros for two participatory fundraising campaigns. CEO Marco Bizzarri made a personal donation of 100,000 euros to several hospitals in Italy, particularly the Emilia-Romagna region.

 


Moncler
The luxury brand Moncler announced in March that it would donate 10 million euros to support the construction of a hospital with over 400 intensive care units in Italy.

 

Valentino
The Italian clothing company announced a donation of 1 million euros through its #ValentinoEmpathy project in support of the Spallanzani Hospital in Rome.

 

Wolford
The Austrian hosiery label joined the 'Global Anti-Virus Relief Scheme' initiative by allocating their production resources for the production of surgical and medical masks.

 

Vestiaire Collective
The platform launched various initiatives such as a charity sale to support the Fondation des Hopitaux de Paris, The Italian Lombardia Region, La Paz Hospital in Spain, and The World Health in England.

 

Claudie Pierlot
The accessible luxury brand announced that it will donate 10 euros to the Solidarity Response Fund for each photo shared on social networks with the hashtag #HeartHands.

 

Nike
Nike and its namesake foundation set aside 15 Million dollars to aid response efforts to Covid-19. The donation will be made to the United Nations Foundation and the Swiss Philanthropy Foundation's Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund, as well as a number of other causes dedicated to fighting the pandemic.

The American lifestyle brand through its foundation donated 10 million dollars to the WHO's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. Additionally, the brand announced the production of 250,000 face masks and 25,000 gowns for health care workers.

The Italian fashion brand converted its textile factories and company resources to produce medical masks (10,000 a day) and gowns.

 

Hermes
The French luxury brand pledged the donation of 20 million euros to the Assistance Publique - Hopitaux de Paris, along with 31,000 masks and 30 tons of hand sanitizer.

 

Loewe
The Spanish fashion brand made a donation of 500,000 euros to the Plataforma de Infancia as well as 40 euros from the sale of each [roduc from its Paula's Ibiza collection.

 

Chanel
The French luxury brand pledged to donate 1.2 million euros to hospitals raised via various emergency funds. It also has donated 50,000 masks to hospital staff.


 

LVMH
The French luxury conglomerate mobilized three of its French perfume and cosmetics production sites to produce hydroalcoholic gel which it distributed free of charge to health authorities in France. It also announced that it would donate 40 million face masks.

 

Dolce & Gabbana
The Italian luxury brand portion of the proceeds from the online sales of its 'Amore for Scientific Research,' Devotion bag will be donated to the Humanitas University for COVID-19 research.

 

Inditex
The parent company of Zara, Massimo Dutti, and Stradivarius said it would manufacture surgical masks and hospital gowns in its factories to be distributed to coronavirus patients and medical professionals in Spain.

 

Mango
The Barcelona-based apparel company announced the donation of two million masks to various Spanish hospitals throughout the nation.

 

Kering
In addition to the initiatives launched by its brands, the luxury conglomerate announced the donation of 2 million euros to numerous local healthcare organizations in the regions of Lombardy, Veneto, Tuscany, and Lazio. Additionally, it also has donated 1 Million dollars to the CDC foundation in the United States.
