Following on the heels of its collaboration with iconic Indian label Sabyasachi Swedish fashion giant H&M has teamed up with Tokyo-based label Toga for a sustainable capsule.
Titled TOGA ARCHIVES x H&M, the collection comprises of menswear and womenswear such as Hybridised trench coats, deconstructed shirts, plisse skirts, and accessories that are reimaginings of TOGA signatures.
All of the pieces are made from sustainable sources such as wool from the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), recycled polyester or Naia yarn, Renew, made from wood pulp from certified forests and recycled plastic waste.
The highlight of the womenswear collection is a wool-twill trench coat, an oversized grey blazer, a navy tunic featuring TOGA's trademark cut-out, dainty pumps with cowboy heels and studs, bugle-bead earrings and a collar necklace. On the other hand the menswear staples include a blue striped shirt and transparent V-neck jumper, a chain-link necklace, and a reversible bomber jacket with a vintage scarf lining.
'We are huge fans of versatile design at H&M, which is why Yasuko Furuta's ingenious pieces for TOGA are so appealing. Her signature cut-outs, for example, can be set against bare skin or paired with a sequined underlayer to glamorous effect. We are thrilled to be able to bring her playful but intellectual style to our customers and look forward to the stylish outfit combinations they will create,' said Ann-Sofie Johansson, Creative advisor at H&M in a press release.
'Fashion can communicate ideas and interests immediately and non-verbally. With TOGA, I have explored the concept of the customer having agency over what they are wearing, a decision that conveys their personality instantly: they can choose to have bare skin underneath a hole in their skirt, or put trousers underneath. I would love for this H&M collection to introduce that idea to a global audience,' added Yasuko Furuta, founder and creative director of TOGA.
Founded in 1997 by Yasuko Furuta, TOGA is known for its timeless designs and experimental takes on wardrobe classics filled with curious sensuality.
Priced between 13 and 349 USD, the TOGA ARCHIVES x H&M collection will be available worldwide in selected stores and at hm.com from September 2.
