A year after his arrival at Celine, Hedi Slimane's momentum and strategy of resetting and redesigning the image of the brand continues.
The French designer who took over the helm from the much-loved Phoebe Philo presented a new architectural design concept for all Celine stores starting with New York City. Located at 650 Madison Avenue, the 500 square meters boutique was designed by Slimane himself and lies between geometric rigor and organic minimalism.
The store features a balanced aesthetic with minimal use of color and warmer elements like wooden furniture and stainless steel. The flooring is made of Basaltina, a Roman lava rock, while the walls feature black granite, white marble from Italy and a deep black stone with graphic white elements from the south of France.
The new store will house the latest womenswear and menswear creations from Slimane with bags on display at the beginning of the store, while shoes can be found at the end of the store. The new store concept will be subsequently implemented worldwide in cities such as Los Angeles, London, Milan, Tokyo, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Paris between February 25 and March.
Celine's CEO Severine Merle told WWD that it plans to open larger stores in large cities that are suitable for men's clothing and the new extensive women's collections.
