Estee Lauder to acquire Frederic Malle fragrance

Beauty conglomerate Estée Lauder announced last week that it plans to acquire Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, the fragrance brand of perfumer Frédéric Malle.

The Frédéric Malle collection was established in Paris in 2000 and includes an assortment of 21 perfumes by master perfumers, curated by Malle himself. The fragrances are sold in stores in Paris and New York, as well as through Barney's in the United States and Liberty in London.

Fabrizio Freda, president and chief executive officer of the Estée Lauder Companies, describes the line as "the epitome of elegance," and "a true luxury brand that augments our portfolio of prestige beauty products."

This is the third acquisition in less than a month for Estee Lauder who has been on a shopping spree having acquired acquired high-end beauty brands Le Labo, also a maker of fragrances, and Rodin Olio Lusso, which specializes in skincare.

Like Le Labo and Rodin, the brand will be overseen by John Demsey, group president of Estée Lauder. Terms of the deal were not disclosed and the transaction is expected to close in January.
