Clare Waight Keller leaves Givenchy

Clare Waight Keller is leaving Givenchy.

The British Designer is stepping down after three years as artistic director of the French fashion house. The announcement came this morning via statements on social media. 'The House of Givenchy and Clare Waight Keller announce the end of their collaboration. Givenchy wants to warmly thank Clare Waight Keller for her creative leadership, in contribution to our latest chapter,' the House said in an Instagram post.

'I want to warmly thank Clare Waight Keller for her contribution to Givenchy's latest chapter. Under her creative leadership, and in great collaboration with its ateliers and teams, the Maison reconnected with the founding values of Hubert de Givenchy and his innate sense of elegance. I wish Clare all the best in her future endeavors,' Sidney Toledano, Chairman, and CEO of LVMH Fashion Group said in a statement.

A graduate from the Royal College of Art in London, Keller worked at Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren and later became senior designer at Gucci alongside Tom Ford. In 2005 she was appointed creative director of Pringle of Scotland, a position she then left in 2011 to become creative director at Chloe a role she held for six years which was succeeded by Louis Vuitton's Natacha Ramsay-Levi. She replaced Riccardo Tisci who left Givenchy in February 2017 after 12 years.

During her time at Givenchy Keller designed 19 collections for the French house but also the wedding dress of Meghan Markle which was a landmark moment in its history. At the end of 2018, she was awarded the prize for best British designer of the year for her women's collections at the British Fashion Awards by Markle.

'As the first woman to be the Artistic Director of this legendary Maison, I feel honored to have been given the opportunity to cherish its legacy and bring it new life. Focusing on a world based on Haute Couture has been one of the highlights of my professional journey. I have shared so many incredible moments with the brilliant Givenchy ateliers and design teams: your exceptional talent and dedication will forever remain in my memories. My heartfelt thanks go out to each of the unsung heroes and heroines behind the scenes, for their contribution from product to communications and retail, and every global team member, partner, and supplier in between. Without all of you, I could not have brought my vision for Givenchy to life in such a beautiful way', Keller said in an official statement.

Keller's successor has yet to be announced.
