Chanel will present its Metiers d'Art 2018-2019 collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The fashion house's last 'Metiers d'Art' show took place in Karl Lagerfeld's hometown of Hamburg in December 2017. This year's venue is noteworthy as it marks twelve years since the last time a Chanel show took place in New York and will be the third time a Chanel show is held in NYC.
It was back in December 2005, when Chanel presented its collection at the Chanel boutique on 57th Street, while May 2006 saw the brand present its Resort 2007 collection at the Grand Central Terminal. In May 2005, the fashion house was the subject of the great fashion exhibition at the Met Museum.
New York plays a significant role in Chanel's history. In 1931, Coco Chanel traveled to New York for the first time and it was in the US where she quickly found fans to buy her first hats.
The 'Metiers d'Art shows have been held for 16 years now and was launched by Lagerfeld in 2002 to celebrate the craftsmanship of Chanel's ateliers and to pay homage to important places in Coco Chanel.
The Chanel Metiers d'Art show will be held on December 4 where its Pre-Fall 2019 collection will be presented.
