Causse Gantier is our 'Brand of the Week'.
Founded in 1892 in Millau, by Paul Causse and his brothers Jules and Henri, the heritage French glove-maker is known for the past 120 years for its gloves and fashion accessories that have become objects of desire. Today, it is still run by the same family and is part of the saga of one of Millau's great manufactories. Olivier Causse represents the fourth generation of this exceptional family of glove-makers.
The glove-making techniques at Causse still involve a permanent quest for perfection and excellence: a precious heritage that endeavors to keep alive. It produces 25,000 pairs of gloves each year created by a design team and thirty or so craftsmen and women.
Gloves are handmade from fine leathers selected for their noblest, supplest and finest quality skins to ensure the exceptional quality of the gloves. The linings consist of natural fabrics of silk, cashmere, and sheepskin and are expertly tanned so that the glove feels like a second skin for the hand. A single pair of gloves can take over a week to make with hundreds of skilled operations needed in a way that no machine can replicate.
As the oldest glove manufacture still operating in Millau, Causse has earned its acclaim over time and a coterie of fans including Karl Lagerfeld, Madonna, and Kylie Minogue. Since 2003, it has been producing gloves for companies such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Hermes while collaborations include bejeweled styles by Delfina Delettrez and Paulin Atelier, a line by graffiti artist Andre, as well as designs by Rodarte and Hugo Matha. More recently Causse launched a line designed in collaboration with French model and actress Audrey Marnay.
Causse opened the doors of its first Parisian boutique in 2007 at 12 rue de Castiglione, in the heart of the ancient luxury goods district designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. In 2012 the label was acquired by Chanel as part of its Metiers d'Art stable.
