Model of the Week: Cajsa Wessberg

Each week, we take the time to highlight one of our favorite emerging models. Last week, we profiled French model Victoria Tuaz and this week we're turning our attention to the multi-hyphenate Cajsa Wessberg.

The Stockholm based Swedish It Girl needs no introduction. An inspiration to many, the illustrator-cum-model is also an ingenious artist, Instagram influencer and animal lover. Citing Twiggy as a muse she is best known for her signature buzz cut. We caught up with Cajsa to talk about her career so far, her passion for art and illustration, the story behind buzzing off her lengths as well as her plans for the future.

How were you scouted?
I was studying bachelor's in visual communication at a design school in Stockholm and some of the fashion students asked me if I could help them as a model. It turned out I really liked being in front of the camera and felt I was good at it, so I contacted Le Management Sweden and here we are!



How would you describe yourself as a model in three words?
Goofy, happy and brave.



What is your favorite or most exciting aspect about being a model?
I love arriving on shoots in the morning, and there's music on, and someone asks me if I want a cup of coffee and being taken care of in the makeup chair. If I'm lucky I get a facial massage, it's so amazing.



Your signature buzz cut is something you are known for. After buzzing off your lengths you've never looked back. Tell us how your radical cut actually sprung? What was the inspiration behind it all?
I think I was just really tired of my hair and needed a change! It was super scary when I did it but I'm so happy for it, it has literally changed my life! I'm celebrating 5 years buzz at the end of June!



Besides being the ultimate It girl, you are an ingenious artist and illustrator. Which of the two (modeling or illustration) would you consider you are the most?
I'm mostly an illustrator, I've been doing that for so long. But I love modeling too!



You've created work for clients such as Carlsberg, Liljevalchs, Moderna Museet and Djurens Ratt (Animal Rights). Which has been your favorite project till date?
I have two favorites, first one is my graduation project at Beckmans college of design, Kottdjur (translated meat animals). It is pedagogic products for children to show that the meat we eat comes from living animals. The products are soft toys, puzzle, and poster.
My other favorite project is quite new, it's my design collaboration with the Scandinavian clothing brand Bikbok. They asked me to design a collection for international women's day. The collection is about sisterhood and having each other's back. It's tracksuits, hoodies and a jacket with my illustration on it. It was so fun to do it!
I got to decide the design and concept, plan and art direct my own shoot and also involve a female rights organization. It's so cool also now to be able to wear my own clothes!



What is your dream shoot/campaign?
I want to do a Glossier campaign! Or shoot with really cute animals, like being covered in puppies.



How do you stay in shape?
I eat all vegan and do some kind of work out four-five times a week, but nothing crazy, maybe just a little run in the forest or something at the gym. I like to think of myself as a dog and the dog needs to run off some energy to be happy.



If you had to be head to toe in one designer brand for the rest of your life, which would it be?
I think Ganni! I just love Danish design!



How would you describe your style?
Sporty, glamorous or punk princess.



When you're not busy modeling, what are some of your favorite things to do?
It feels like I'm always busy with someone lately, I miss having a private life. When I don't have modeling work, I have to do my illustration work and Instagram collaborations. But if I do have free time some of my favorite things include going to a petting zoo, breakfast date with friends, food, and Netflix, and being out in nature.



Where do you see yourself in 10 years' time?
I have major climate anxiety, so I think the future is scary. But hopefully, the planet is fine and then I think I'm gonna have a kid, share a big house with my sister and friends, have a few cats and maybe two pet goats in the garden. I'm gonna work two days a week in a design office as art director and work on my children book for the rest of the time.
