Model of the Week: Ariel Nicholson

Each week, we take the time to highlight one of our favorite emerging models. Last week, we profiled Emma Laird and this week we decided to feature transgender model Ariel Nicholson.

Nationality: American
Agency: DNA Model Management
Instagram: ariel.nicholson

Who She Is: The 17-year-old New Jersey native was scouted by DNA models - the agency that represents Natalia Vodianova, Linda Evangelista, and Doutzen Kroes while still in high school. Not only is she a model but is also an activist and is instrumental in raising awareness for the trans community and volunteers at Gender & Family Project.

From an early age she identified with not being a boy and in fifth grade began taking Lupron, a drug that suppresses the effects of puberty. During eight grade she appeared in a PBS documentary 'Growing Up Trans,' in which she talked with her therapist about the decision to go on estrogen.

Nicholson cites her mother, Kerry, as her number-one supporter who helped her in her transition, and her modeling career.

Career highlights: She made her debut at Calvin Klein's Spring/Summer 2018 show having been selected by Raf Simons just two weeks after she had signed with her agency. From there on Nicholson has appeared on the runways of Marc Jacobs and starred in Calvin Klein campaigns, a Vogue spread devoted to transgender children and W magazine. Nicholson currently models in between her studies at a Waldorf school in Chestnut Ridge, New York and hopes to graduate in Sociology or Political Science.

Why She's One To Watch: Having impressed the likes of Raf Simons and Calvin Klein, the six-foot-tall Pre-Raphaelite beauty is destined for greatness and we'll be seeing more of her campaigns and editorials.
