Vans and the Van Gogh Museum have teamed up for a special collection, which features a number of Van Gogh's masterpieces.
The US brand, which has in the past collaborated with numerous greats from fashion such as Japanese artist Takashi Murakami worked with the museum to select four important paintings as a source of inspiration for a unique collection.
The artful collection consists of sneakers featuring the works Skull, Almond Blossom, Sunflowers and a self-portrait. Each model in the "Vans x Van Gogh Museum" shoe collection is finished with an individual footbed art and a special hangtag that explains the historical facts behind the artworks.
Vans designers selected excerpts and doodles from approximately 700 letters Vincent van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo, which were printed on the rubber sole and textile surface of a special version of the Vans Classic Slip-On. In addition, the collection consists of hoodies and T-shirts.
'We are delighted with the 'Vans x Van Gogh Museum' collection, as it fits our mission to make Vincent van Gogh's life and work accessible to as many people as possible, to enrich and inspire them,' said Adriaan Donszelmann, Managing Director of the Van Gogh Museum.
The Vans x Van Gogh Museum collection will be available at selected retail outlets as well as through Vans and the Van Gogh Museum on August 3. Proceeds from the sale will be used by the museum to preserve the estate and the art collection of Vincent van Gogh.
